Meet the Transplant Surgeon behind the Illustrations

Dr. Maria Baimas-George, MD, MPH, is a transplant surgeon, author, and illustrator. In addition to caring for transplant patients, she created the Strength of My Scars series of patient education books, aimed at helping make complex medical topics easier to understand. The illustrations featured throughout this site are adapted from her work, bringing the perspective of someone who has cared for transplant patients both in and out of the operating room.
