Investigator-initiated studies (IIS) and grants are competitive. Submissions may be sent to iit-grant@caredx.com at any time and are reviewed monthly. If an initial submission is approved to proceed, the requestor will be asked to provide a full protocol for final review, which occurs on a quarterly basis. CareDx’s 2026–2027 research interests include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

Clinical Utility: Outcomes

Use of the test in clinical practice is associated with improved outcomes, such as fewer biopsies, improved survival, or other clinically meaningful endpoints.

Clinical Utility: Decisions

Documented use of the test to inform clinical decisions that impact patient care, such as immunosuppression management.

Physician Acceptance

Evidence demonstrating use of the test in clinical practice, even when formal clinical utility endpoints are not fully established.

Clinical Validity

Evidence demonstrating that the test measures an analyte associated with a relevant clinical condition, such as rejection.

Please send inquiries on research collaborations to iit-grant@caredx.com.

All submissions and documents must be submitted in English. All submissions should include a completed budget using the budget template found here.

Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS)

Funding or support may be provided for scientific research, including but not limited to pre-clinical and clinical studies, where the investigator, on behalf of an institution, writes the protocol, conducts and manages the trial, and assumes responsibility for study administration. The institution and investigator have regulatory responsibility for the study as both the sponsor and the investigator, if appropriate.

CareDx personnel shall not help the institution, investigator, or anyone else to prepare the IIS submission, and the investigator shall retain independent control over the content of the study set forth in the application on behalf of the institution. IIS funding is for a specific, defined study, with a complete protocol and budget submitted and reviewed as part of the criteria for approval.

An initial study design and budget estimate are required for initial review using the template available here.

If CareDx indicates interest in proceeding with a request, the following materials will be required for further review:

  • A signed copy of the final protocol, using the template available here.

  • A complete, detailed budget reflecting all costs associated with the project (from start-up to closure) which accurately demonstrates how CareDx Support and/or Funding, if approved, would be expended. Budgets must request funding at rates representing fair market value, template available if needed.

Name, address, and federal tax ID of the third-party organizer, including the current version of the third-party organizer’s W-9 or W-8 form.

Research Grant Process

Funding or support may be provided for general research, translational research, other research or development projects, and/or other initiatives of research organizations, labs, and academic institutions with a primary mission to advance science and/or the development of scientific methodologies, techniques, and information. Research Grants must serve the ultimate purpose of improving patient or public health and welfare. Research Grant requests follow the IIS process and templates described above. CareDx personnel shall not help the institution, investigator, or anyone else prepare the Research Grant request, and the investigator shall retain independent control over the content of the study set forth in the application on behalf of the institution.

Fellowship Grant

Fellowship Grant applications will be accepted July 1-September 30 each year for the following academic year. Applications will be reviewed and results communicated later in the calendar year. CareDx provides funding to support a physician who has completed a post graduate residency and is participating in a clinical fellowship with a research project or research fellowship program. This funding is competitive and will be awarded only for projects with strong scientific rigor and a focus on non-invasive care for transplant recipients. We suggest considering a project that can feasibly be accomplished within the duration of the fellowship training.

Fellowship Grant Request Criteria

Please complete your submission inclusive of the below using the template available here.

  • A description of the proposed research project including the focus area, length of term, and location.

  • An explanation of how the proposed fellowship program activities are consistent with CareDx’s mission and focused on diagnosis or treatment of transplant recipients.

  • A detailed budget reflecting how the Fellowship Grant funding would be expended.
