Surgery & Recovery

My first transplant, I was in the hospital for a little bit longer, and the overall recovery, it’s about 6 weeks till you start to kind of feel normal and like 6 months before you really are kind of back to yourself. I’ll say my second transplant, I felt like I felt 200% better the next day. It was absolutely amazing.

As far as procedures go immediately after transplant, you go for quite a few for the first few weeks, and then it starts to stretch out a little bit after a year of post transplant. But it’s all routine, very little pain, discomfort, it’s all same-day type stuff.

In my case, the hardest part of post transplant was getting my strength back. There was one point where I couldn’t even push myself up off the ground and do a push up. Now I work out every day.

Since the surgery, I’ve resumed all of my regular activities. Still riding my bicycle, you know, a 40 mile ride is not scary anymore. I just do whatever I feel.

I was able to go back to work remotely, fully physically exhausted. I’m not going to lie, I would have wished I would have taken more than three months, but I was able to at least put 20 or 30 hours in a week online. I was able to manage it because I had great support.
